The Mabon:

Turn your sun dial back 11 years… In 2006 we hosted the final Festival of the Mabon on Planet Bluegrass. It was a magical day along the St. Vrain River with some of our favorite artists in Celtic music, marking the weekend of the autumnal equinox (the “Mabon”).

This year, for the first time since that final Mabon Festival, Irish music again takes center stage, as we welcome Seamus Egan, founding member of legendary Irish-American band Solas, back to the intimate Wildflower Pavilion. Join us for a special day of camping, Mabon revelry, and Celtic virtuosity, as we celebrate the turning of the season here on Planet Bluegrass.

Seamus Egan Project

It’s hard to think of an artist in traditional Irish music more influential than Seamus Egan. From his beginnings as a teen prodigy (winning a breathtaking 4 All-Ireland Championships on 4 different instruments by the young age of 14), to his groundbreaking solo work with Shanachie Records, to his founding of Irish-American powerhouse band Solas, to his current work as one of the leading composers and interpreters of the tradition, Egan has inspired multiple generations of musicians and helped define the sound of Irish music today.  For this special Mabon show, Seamus will be joined by all-star friends: Moira Smiley (vocals, accordion, banjo), Kyle Sanna (guitar), and Tristan Clarridge (pioneering cellist for Crooked Still, and 5-time US Grand National Fiddle Champion!). www.solasmusic.com

Take Down the Door

Music starts at 8pm with the premium grade-Irish Music of Colorado’s own Take Down the Door. The band's foot-stomping, heart-stopping, wide-open sound reflects both the band's name (the Irish once were known to take the doors off the hinges when it was time for a party) and their natural Colorado habitat. Fiddler Jessie Burns toured for 6 years and recorded three #1 world albums with Celtic supergroup Gaelic Storm. The music of Adam Agee and Jon Sousa has been called "sincere and from the heart" by top traditional fiddler Martin Hayes. Described by Irish Music Magazine as "exceptional," singer Beth Leachman Gadbaw made her mark as singer for acclaimed traditional group Siucra.
